Importing .MOV file from Canon 60D into Avid Media Composer 6

Summary: Follow the guide below you will know the way to convert Canon H.264 MOV to DNxHD codec for editing in Avid MC 6 on Mac Mountain Lion with Canon H.264 MOV Converter.

Canon EOS 60D features HD Video capture technologies – manual exposure control for more creative control, for example – borrowed directly from professional Canon DSLRs to capture stellar video with all the benefits of shooting with a DSLR. By shooting video with the EOS 60D, photographers as well as filmmakers can take advantage of the creative features native to DSLR cameras.

Video can be captured at a number of resolutions and frame rates for numerous applications. It can capture 1920 x 1080 Full HD video at frame rates of 30 (29.97 fps), 24 (23.976 fps) and 25 frames per second, for up to 4GB per clip. Video footage is saved as MOV files and can be viewed in Full HD through the EOS 60D DSLR’s HDMI output.

As EOS 60D recorded video format is H.264 MOV, this format is supported by many editing software, but sometime it is not supported perfectly on Mac editing software, like Avid Media Composer 6. The main reason is the H.264 codec not well for editing.

What is Avid Media Composer 6 best supported codec and format on Mac mountain Lion?

Avid MC 6 best supported video format is DNxHD codec MOV format, or XDCAM codec MOV format, so DNxHD is the first choice if you need to edit Canon 60D MOV in Avid Media Composer 6.

4.Click convert button to start transcoding 60D MOV to Avid Media Composer 6.

As shown above, it is very easy to change Canon MOV to DNxHD codec, it becomes easy for you to use the recorded footages in Avid Media Composer 6.

Canon 5D Mark III gets clean HDMI firmware update

If your camera arsenal includes a 5D Mark III, prepare to get your download on. Earlier today, Canon released a major firmware update for the hit DSLR — version 1.2.1 enables clean, uncompressed HDMI output with simultaneous LCD display and recording to CF or SD cards, along with cross-type autofocus for apertures as small as f/8, bringing that aspect of AF capability in line with the EOS-1D X. You’ll be able to take advantage of improved autofocus performance even when using an f/5.6 lens with a 1.4x extender, or an f/4 lens with a 2x extender. On the video front, version 1.2.1 will let you boot an uncompressed YCbCr 4:2:2 feed to an external recorder, enabling your pick of codecs and frame rates, while also eliminating arbitrary limits on record time. The free download, available for recent versions of Mac OS and Windows, is yours for the taking at the source link below.

Canon intros Vixia HF G30 camcorder with Wi-Fi, 20X lens

While the image of the amateur camcorder user still revolves around a parent recording baby’s first steps, Canon knows that at least some of us want high-quality footage without venturing too far into pro camera territory. Witness its new Canon VIXIA HF G30, which rolls in image quality and control that are still rare outside of big shoulder-mounted cams. It includes a larger CMOS sensor than its ancestors, a new DIGIC DV 4 processor and an equally fresh 20X (26.8-536mm equivalent), f/1.8 lens; together, they should cut back on visual artifacts, improve stabilization and produce a gentler depth of field effect. Canon is also expanding its WiFi support to include DSLR-like remote control of the camcorder through the web browsers of most modern devices. The upgrade rounds out with a handful of firsts specific to the G series, such as dual recording in AVCHD and MP4 as well as a 3.5-inch, OLED touchscreen. Be prepared to sacrifice some time and money for the upgrade in home video quality, though — Canon doesn’t ship the HF G30 until June, when it will cost a not-quite-pro-level $1,700.

If you really do make a living from moving pictures, Canon also has a pair of compact pro models that share the same underlying technology. Both the XA20 and XA25 (pictured after the break) carry the same 20X lens, DIGIC DV 4 processing, WiFi and OLED display as their home-oriented cousin, but throw in pro-level expansion such as XLR microphone inputs and holders, independent audio level adjustment and (on the XA25) SDI connectors. The two will ship later in June and should carry premiums that lift their official prices up to $2,699 and $3,199, although we’re seeing them on Canon’s site for $500 less — we’ve reached out and will let you know how much they cost in practice.

Olympus is showing off its new PEN in four Chinese cities from May 11th

Last year, Olympus’ release schedule danced around the E-P3: the camera maker launched the semi-pro OM-D E-M5 and refreshed its smaller PEN bodies, but didn’t touch its original mirrorless form factor. We know the company won’t be forgetting its roots this year, as its Chinese branch has posted a teaser for a next-generation, flagship PEN camera. There are no official details beyond superlatives about “classic” textures and “unprecedented control,” but rumors suggest it will be called the E-P5 (E-P4 skipped due to superstitions) and might be joined by the mid-tier E-PL6. We won’t have long to learn the full story when Olympus is showing off its new PEN in four Chinese cities between May 11th and June 1st — in-person demos require more than just a silhouette, after all.
