MXF is abbreviation for Material eXchange Format, it is a “container” or “wrapper” for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards. It has full timecode and metadata support, and is intended as a platform-agnostic stable standard for future professional video and audio applications. MXF files are mainly from professional High Definition camcorders/cameras like Panasonic P2 camcorders AG-AC130EJ, AJ-HPX370, Canon XF series camcorder XF300, XF305, and Sony EX camera , etc. However, MXF files is not compatible well on Mac OS. Below are some mac users question:
Q1: How can I play XDCAM .mxf files on Mac ?
XDCAM Browser 1.0 does not see the .mxf proxy files saved to thumb drive while recording.
Q2: How to play MXF videos in QuickTime?
I just got my first Mac, it’s great. However, I would like to play a MXF video in QuickTime, it says it doesn’t
support it. What do I have to do?
Q3: How do I convert from .MXF to a format that will allow Mac OS Mountain Lion to run the movie?
I am using a Canon camera to record rugby games. The camera is stopped regularly and the memory card
has 130 files on it. All of my previous stuff was saved on a desktop and all of my movies and videos are saved
as MXF. I use a free program to convert MXF to MPEG-4 format. The 1st file goes well but then appears to
stop converting. Is the files too large to handle? Is there an easy way?
